Bangladesh-Oman relations

Bangladesh-Oman relations indicate bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Oman .

History

The Sultanate of Oman recognized Bangladesh in 1974. In March 1973, Bangladesh established its diplomatic mission in Oman. Since then, friendly relations have been maintained between the two countries. Oman is one of the first Arab countries to support Bangladesh's membership in the United Nations and other international organizations. In 1996, Bangladesh promoted the mission to Oman at the ambassadorial level. The Sultanate of Oman established its full embassy in Dhaka in 2012.

Bangladesh has a resident embassy in Oman. Bangladeshi workers are subject to the kafala system, which binds them to their employers, and according to Human Rights Watch , they may be subjected to torture. In 2013, about 1,33,026 Bangladeshi workers entered Oman with different types of work permits and are keen to simplify the mission process. In 2014, 1,05,748 Bangladeshis came to Oman on various departmental visas. In the June 2013-June 2014 financial year, Bangladeshis living in Oman remitted about  600 million.
