Bangladesh-India border clash

 





The Bangladesh-India border clash refers to the wars that have taken place at different times between the border guards of Bangladesh and India. Bangladesh and India share a 4,156 km (2,562 mi) international border. Battle of Padua 2001





 In the third week of April 2001, Bangladesh Rifles (now BGB) and Border Security Force of India(BSF) clashes. Which was organized on the poorly marked international border between the two countries. On 15 and 17 April 2001, the BDR clashed with the Indian BSF at Padua on the Sylhet border and again on 19 April at the Padua border. In all these three battles, the BDR jawans of Bangladesh at that time won. Bangladesh has been alleging that BSF has been carrying out various illegal activities in Padua, a populated area of ​​Bangladesh since 1971. Finally, the BSF started building roads there illegally. But according to international law and the Indo-Bangla border agreement, building roads there is against the law. Despite repeated bans by Bangladesh, they continue to build roads. In this situation, the then BDR (now BGB) took possession of Padua. Two days after this incident, 60 km from Padua. The BSF entered the border of Bangladesh in the distance and attacked the BDR's Baribari base with heavy weapons. After a while, the BDR started a counter-attack and the battle started. Two Bangladeshi BDR members were killed and 18 BSF members were killed in the two-day battle, according to Dhaka. The matter was later settled through the mediation of Delhi and Dhaka and the war came to an end.





Baraibari Border War 2001





On 17 April 2001, another border war broke out between India and Bangladesh at Roumari in Kurigram. In this battle 17 Indian border guards were killed. Bangladesh-India relations are in dire straits after the clashes at Boraibari, a village on the Roumari border in Kurigram. The battle started at dawn and after six hours of continuous fighting, the Indian forces retreated. At that time, there were urgent talks between the border guards of the two countries at a high level. But that did not stop the conflict. They retreated only after many members of the Indian Border Security Force were killed.Three BGB members were killed in the fighting. They are Naik Subedar Wahiduzzaman, Sepoy Mahfuzur Rahman and Sepoy Abdul Quader.





Battle of Akhaura 2005





On 17 April 2005, a border war broke out between the two countries near the border pillar 2022/3S at Hirapur village on the Bangladesh-India border in Akhaura upazila. 20/25 armed BSF members and 60/65 Indian nationals entered the village of Hirapur within 300 yards of the Bangladesh border that day. BSF and Indian nationals started massive looting in Hirapur village. The BSF fired when the villagers resisted. The villagers then clashed with the BSF members with the BDR members present. The BDR and BSF exchanged fire for about 4/5 hours. The BSF's company commander in this war, Assistant Commandant Shri Jeevan Kumar was shot dead. Constable KK Surender was also shot. In the end, the BSF company was forced to leave the land of Bangladesh leaving the body of the commander and the injured constable. Later, in recognition of their heroic deeds, the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh awarded Bangladesh Rifles Medal to 2 persons and President Rifles Medal to 3 persons. This is the highest honor medal of BDR. Besides, 6 people were awarded DG's Commendation Medal. On 24 February 2009, at the end of the Rifles Week-2009 Parade, the Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina officially conferred the highest medal of the BDR "Bangladesh Rifles Medal" (BRM). 3 people were awarded the President's Rifles Medal. This is the highest honor medal of BDR. Besides, 6 people were awarded DG's Commendation Medal. On 24 February 2009, at the end of the Rifles Week-2009 Parade, the Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina officially conferred the highest medal of the BDR "Bangladesh Rifles Medal" (BRM). 3 people were awarded the President's Rifles Medal.
